London: The Crime Club, Collins, 1951. [Modern Literature] VINTAGE HARDCOVER REPRINT. Octavo (19 x 12cm), pp.192. Publisher's blue cloth lettered in gilt to spine, typographic dust-jacket with printed price of 2/- to spine. Tearing to rear pastedown away from board causing some shakiness, spotting to preliminaries, toning and spotting to edges of textblock, toning internally, spotting to spine, some spotting to jacket visible on flaps and reverse, some wear/rubbing to jacket. Very good. A murdered government agent leaves a cryptic message, which Tommy and Tuppence Beresford must decipher; this is the third of five cases for the adventurous detective pair. This novel was first published in 1941 and this vintage hardcover reprint was produce ten years later in 1951 by the Collins Crime Club.

London: Published for the Crime Club by Collins, 1941. [Detective Fiction] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.192. Publisher's orange cloth with black titles to spine. With the dust-jacket designed by Thompson, not priced (an export copy). A small notation of 'First Edition' in black ink inside front cover, hidden beneath flap, else a fine copy internally. Jacket chipped at the top of the spine and corners, and with a browned spine. Very good. A murdered government agent leaves a cryptic message, which Tommy and Tuppence Beresford must decipher; this is the third of five cases for the adventurous detective pair, following 'The Secret Adversary' (1922) and 'Partners In Crime' (1929). They would return in 'By The Pricking of My Thumbs' (1968) and 'Postern of Fate' (1973).
