Description:
n.p.: n.p., 1968. Very good +.. Infamous image of a personified Justice and Statue of Liberty being graphically assaulted by a gang of laughing police officers, under the eye of an American eagle. By the artist best known for his iconic woodcut of a clenched fist, an enduring image of the New Left used by anti-draft protestors, Black Panthers, and others. This image was also distributed in a better-known, larger poster that was described at a 1968 House Un-American Activities Committee hearing as "one of the most vile, obscene pieces of literature that I have seen disseminated in San Francisco" by Examiner reporter Edward S. Montgomery. Original print, 5.5'' x 8'' approx. Purple ink on heavy textured paper. Toning to edges; minor edgewear. Very good plus or better.
