Front pastedown has small descriptive paper affixed and tape at hinge crack. Dampstaining to pastedowns and endpages. There is also a rear hinge crack and a gutter crack. Despite some moisture damage and age-toning to the margins, the text and illustrations are quite clear. One page is torn. The binding is sound. Drummond came to Africa as a young man (he was killed in Zululand 1879). The book was written to serve as a guide for those intending to visit Africa to shoot game at a time when hunters' weapons were primitive. Most hunting was then done on horseback but he hunted on foot. Contains separate chapters on buffalo, rhinoceros, eland, elephant, lions, leopards, hunting with dogs, anecdotes of antelopes, and game birds.
