First ed., first printing with gauffered edges; 448 p., clean and unmarked except for name of former owner on front end paper and price of $40; period photos and holographs of documents are of the greatest interest--frontis. photo shows the author "Late Ambassador of the German Imperial Court" "Saying good-bye to the Americans leaving on a special train in August of 1914," and the ambassador himself was dismissed after the declaration of war. Binding is firm and green boards are unfaded but in absence of d.j. the gilt lettering has been dulled, top front corner has been bumped and there is a closed tear at crown of spine.
