Stated as American first ed THUS (ie first ed with Dulac illustrations) in other listings, but the info varies- the dates have been listed as from anywhere between 1911 and 1930 with the same description of 16 plates and either green or brown boards. ""I"" on verso seems to support that this is a first thus. Green cloth boards with gilt lettering. Spine a bit faded, minor shelf/reading wear. Otherwise VG. Pages/boards clean, NO foxing or markings. Binding sturdy.

Beautifully Cased with the Original Front Boards and Spine. There is Bright Gold Gilt on the spine and the front cover. Publication of 250 pages. Heavy book may require extra postage unless posted within South Africa. The boards are a little shelf rubbed and a touch edge worn. There is foxing around the block of the book and on the early and last pages, little within the body of the book. The text is legible. The binding is excellent. GK. London : Hodder and Stoughton , 1911 A good copy of the first trade edition, in the original decorative cloth binding with 28 fine tipped in colour plates by Edmund Dulac. Dulac designed the edition and the work has decorative endpapers, decorative borders to pages and decorated leaves before each tipped in plate. The plate images have been much reproduced since on posters and cards. The binding has bright gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It has been expertly rebacked so is sound and tight. The spine is slightly darkened and there is light wear to edges and corners. The decorative endpapers have been retained with professional repair at the joints. Contents are complete and clean with slight offsetting from the plate pages to the opposing text and the occasional spot (eg the gutter of p 49) or light mark. An out-of-series copy numbered 0000, from a series numbered officially at 750 copies thus, SIGNED by the illustrator in black ink to the limitation page. Possibly the Publisher's File Copy, according to a stamp on the fly-leaf. Publisher's full vellum, with gilt titles and decoration to spine and upper. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. 'Publisher's' [file copy?] stamp to fly-leaf, partially obscured with an adhesive mark and hand-written ink numbers, scored out. Otherwise internally crisp and clean. Lacks silk ties. Binding shows fairly light wear, with moderate surface marking, and minimal bowing to boards. Very good.
