Folded, with seal of the United States Consular, Glasgow and that of the Collector's Office and a stamp reading "Quadruplicate."Some light soiling, creased, short marginal tears along lower edge and fold, else condition very good. 4 pages, the second being lined else blank. 1 vols. 4to. Harte as Consul at Glasgow. Invoice for the consignment of Carpet wool to McCallum, Crease & Sloan from Forrest & Co. of Glasgow on the Steamship "State of Nebraska" destination Philadelphia, with Harte's signature as the Consul at Glasgow. The upper portion of the third page with the statement and signature of Thomas Forrest of Forrest & Co. Harte was Consul in Glasgow from July 1880 until 1885.

Description:
San Francisco: Towne & Bacon, Printers, 1863, 1863. One corner chipped; in fine condition.. 14.5 x 26 cm, lithographed with two vignettes; the text is in several different typefaces. An early Bret Harte autograph document. Before he became famous as the author of short stories about the California Gold Rush and editor of Anton Roman's Overland Monthly, Harte worked in numerous other jobs in and around San Francisco, including as a secretary for mining companies, of which this document is an unusual example.
