An early Bret Harte autograph document. Before he became famous as the author of short stories about the California Gold Rush and editor of Anton Roman's Overland Monthly, Harte worked in numerous other jobs in and around San Francisco, including as a secretary for mining companies, of which this document is an unusual example.
