Some rubbing to the hinges and bumping to the corners. Slight marks to the boards and gilt decoration bright. Internally clean with some spotting to the extermities and plates. Both volumes have frontis. plates after John Martin and seven engraved illustrated title-pages. Seven other full page plates after John Martin bound within. Original high quality mid-Victorian full polished calf in the medieval style with blind-stamped corner decoration within blind border frames and gilt titles to the spines within five raised bands. Original yellow end-papers but with evidence of original bookplates now removed on both front board inners. The family register page is at the rear of volume one and blank.
