The author tells of his many experiences, mostly in the Pacific Northwest. Mining life in Shasta City district is vividly portrayed, and the arrival of the first white woman in camp is described in minute detail. A tale of the Rogue River Indian War of 1853 is recounted in some vivid detail, as well as encounters with grizzly bears, his time as sheriff of Pacific county, being nursed back to health by a Mormon family, heading to Kootenia in British Columbia when gold was struck there and the enforcement of the rigid mining laws on British territory are described, and much more. Near fine, tight copy. Housed in a folding slipcase with gilt-stamped leather label on spine.
