Illustrated with over 100 plates (with 182 illustrations). Original full cloth binding shows old damp stain and wear, with some loss near spine. Text lightly damp stained along the bottom quarter. Not too obtrusive. Early pencil ownership of Thomas Cummings, a Lancaster, PA photographer from the late 1850's to the 1880's. The illustrations and text include the highest achievements of art, industry, mechanization, invention, science, commerce, etc. of Victorian America, with nice sections on similar areas world wide.
