The dark blue clothbound boards are sharp at the corners and with only slight surface wear to the panels and the spine tips. The gilt titling on the spine is without wear and bright; the publishers name in gilt has some small nicks, each smaller than 1mm in length. The text blocks are gilt on the top edge and rough cut to the side and bottom, which are slightly toned due to poor paper stock. The front pastedown carries the bookseller's label of D. Mackenzie, Stockton, which is small and neat. The internals are sparsely foxed until the eighth page but mostly clean. It is free from previous owners inscriptions and is, overall, in near fine condition. Focusing on his days as a smoker, J.M.
