Description:
Camden, Maine: Printed for the Smiling Cow by the Camden Herald Press, 1947. Wraps. Very good +. Carroll Thayer BERRY. [TRAVEL]. Carroll THAYER BERRY, illustrator. Fold-out Map: First Map of Camden 8vo; 93pp; buff colored sueded paper wrapper with yap edges, lettering and vignette of a boat with sails on front, faux-marbled wrapper backing; 9 full-page illustrations; fold-out map; chipping to wrapper edges and tear to wrapper at spine foot, crease to front wrapper; interior bright and binding tight; very good plus. A lovely look at the towns of Camden and Rockport, Maine by Lew Dietz (1906-1997), a writer and journalist based in Maine. Dietz's most notable book, A Seal Called Andre, recalls the true-life story of an orphaned seal who became a popular attraction in the Rockport harbor. The reproduced wood-engraved illustrations by Carroll Thayer Berry (1886-1978) add to the charm of the narrative.
