Garden City: Doubleday and Co., 1946-1947. Second printing. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. 10 x 8 in. Black cloth spine with pictoral paper boards. This is a very early printing, probably the second printing, with a gift message dated 1947 and the price of $2.00 on the rear DJ flap advert for "Little Lost Lamb." No mention of first edition on the copyright info, and the price has been clipped from the DJ. Condition is VERY GOOD ; covers very clean, spine strip is rather poorly done originally, with the lower piece wider and a bit crooked. Minor wear to corners. Binding tight. Gift message dated 1947 on ffep and a poem by Rachel Field, another Maine author, is written in blue ink on the blank side of the ffep. Text has some pencil underlining and marks to denote favorite lines in the story, otherwise the illustrations are completely unmarked and bright/fresh. DJ is VERY GOOD ; clipped, a bit foxed, edges have mild wear and some minor chips - a far better than usual DJ. In a new Mylar wrapper. Chil. RGR.

First edition, first printing of this Caldecott winner, this copy with a large inscription by Weisgard reading "For Willa Mae Blau, whose warmth and spirit helped so much to get through the 'ordeal'. Thanks, Leonard Weisgard." A bit of rubbing to book along covers, dust jacket chipped along spine and rubbed.
