Signed and inscribed to no specific person: "With best wishes from Clarence Manion" / "Clarence Manion (1896-1979) was an American conservative jurist and dean of the Notre Dame Law School from 1941 to 1952. He is perhaps best known for his political activism, particularly his efforts to promote conservative causes in the United States during the mid-20th century. Manion was born in Indiana and attended the University of Chicago, where he earned both a bachelor degree and a law degree. After practicing law in Chicago for several years, he joined the faculty of the Notre Dame Law School in 1928, eventually becoming its dean.
