Very slightly cocked with gently bumped corners, edge rubbing especially to spine extremities, and very slight fading at spine and around edges of front and back covers. Gilt on front and spine is clear and bright. Binding is tight and hinges are sound. Pages bright, clean, and free of foxing. No writing or marks. Pages rough cut with bright gilt at top, and cloth over boards is purple silk. Posthumously published novel about Clare Wygrytch, a young Polish woman, and the rich and powerful Duke Oscar. Author, Eliza Orzeszkowa (1841-1911), wrote short stories and novels. She was a Positivist who has often been overlooked as a literary figure but whose contributions were significant. 7.25" (18.5 cm) tall; 140 pages.
