Description:
London: Black and Armstrong, 1835. Hardcover. Good / Fair. Reprint. Hardback, bound in full-leather, gilt titling to spine. 22.5 × 13.5cm, 216pp. A history of London, illustrated with frontispiece of St Paul's Cathedral, engraved title page and 270 engravings on 54 pages (there are five illustrations per page). The illustrations contains everything from zoos to hospitals, churches to residences, street scenes, monuments, parks etc. Condition: A good reference copy. The leather is heavily rubbed to the joints and the boards marked and bumped. There is tanning to the pages and one plate of engravings is neatly detached, and one has a neat taped repair to the rear. However, this remains a wonderful collection of early 19th century London images.

Bindings with light wear, minor tears and light cracking of hinges. Boards rubbed. Cover of volume one attached only at top of binding. Starting at front inside gutters. Some light, sporadic foxing throughout, mostly in margins, sometimes affecting images.

London: George Virtue, 1837. First Edition . Decorative Cloth. Very Good. 1837 First edition. Complete in two volumes. Size octavo, 208 and 216 pages. Brown cloth decorated with ornate blind stamed frames to each cover, gilt titles to the spines, page edges unevenly trimmed. With two title pages to each volume, engraved title pages and printed title pages. Condition very good. The bindings have been professionally rebacked at some point with new end-papers and original spines laid down, corners and edges a little rubbed, spines and inner edges of covers a little faded, a few light spots to first and last few pages and the versos of the plates, pages slightly toned with a little offsetting here and there from the plates, but generally very clean. The plates are in nice clean condition. Very nicely executed engravings by Virtue. Three hundred splendid engravings. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

London: Black and Armstrong, 1835. Hardcover. Both volumes in original olive green cloth with gilt decorations on the boards and spines. Volume one has three short separations in the cloth at the hinges and volume two has two. Boards of both volumes with light rubbing and wear and bumping to the corners. 19th-century bookplates. Bindings shaken. The interiors are near fine with some widely scattered foxing and a corner dampstain on the last pages of volume one. Engraved title-pages and frontispieces (engraving of the "View of London from Waterloo Bridge" and engraving of St. Paul's in volume two). Approximately, 600 engraved views of London buildings and views, normally 5-6 views in one full-page engraving.
