Description:
London. Jonathan Cape. 1936. Octavo (8 x 5 1/2). 239 pp. Illustrated by C.F. Tunnicliffe. This is the first illustrated edition, and its a re-issue of the 1932 first edition published by A. & C. Black in 1932. Attractive color illustrated end papers, and Mr. Tunnicliffes text drawings add a nice touch as well. This was Haig-Brown's second published book, and its one that he had reservations about and wouldn't allow additional printings after this 1936 publication (although the Germans did publish it in 1938). This binding state in red cloth with black titles on the spine is the other binding I didnt include in my bibliography of published Haig-Brown books 25 years ago. I missed it, and since Ive known of it for about 10 years, it still grates on me. The book is clean and in near fine condition..
