Columbia, SC: The R. L. Bryan Company, 1973. 1st edition, 2nd printing. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. Sallie Middleton. 1st edition, 2nd printing, 1973. Very Good. 8vo., 260, monochrome illustrated plates by Middleton. Bound in publishers tan cloth with red illustrated dust jacket. Jacket is slightly faded, with some chipping along the edges. Text appears to be unmarked and clean. Dust jacket now protected in mylar sleeve. Archibald Hamilton Rutledge was an American poet and educator, the first South Carolina poet laureate from 1934 to 1973. He wrote over 50 books and many poems, usually about his hunting and life experiences in South Carolina.

AN EXTREMELY CLEAN, ATTRACTIVE COPY WITH A BRIGHT, BEAUTIFUL DUSTJACKET IN NEW, GLOSSY BRODART. FIRST PRINTING. Illustrated by Sallie Middleton. Only one very small bookstore stamp to the rear pastedown. It is covered by the dust jacket flap. Included is a new bookplate should one wish it to be covered. One of the last of Rutledge's books to be published before his death several years later. Dr. Rutledge portrays the drama and humor of the wild colonies around his home at Hampton Plantation in McClellanville, South Carolina. His home is now open the public. Rutledge was named poet laureate of South Carolina in 1934 and he is still the most well-known. Notable descendents to name only a few include two former South Carolina governors and a signer of the Declaration of Indepedence. 260 pages. BEAUTIFUL COPY FOR ANY RUTLEDGE COLLECTOR!
