Uniformly bound in burgundy ribbed publisher’s cloth, gilt lettering & device of sailing ship on spines, t.e.g. (some minor shelfwear, rubbing, couple vols. w/ very minor bumping to couple corners), still a VG bright set. First Definitive Edition, published contemporaneously as the Autograph edition, beginning in 1924. After the tremendous success following the publishing of Scaramouche in 1921 by Houghton, and subsequent swashbucklers such as Captain Blood, and The Sea-Hawk, the publisher decided to capitalize on the fame of Sabatini (1875-1950) by publishing all of his writings beginning with 14 volumes in 1924, and then between 1 and 6 volumes a year for the next decade, eventually reaching 34 volumes in total.
