Bottom edges of boards are lightly rubbed. Front end leaf is tanned and has an ex libris bookplate pasted on. Second blank page has several closed tears near binding edge. Inside is clean and unmarked.

Original blue cloth, with gold lettering on spine and blind-stamped lettering on front cover. David Octavius Hill (1802-1870) was a Scottish painter and arts activist. He formed Hill & Adamson studio with the engineer and photographer Robert Adamson between 1843 and 1847 to pioneer many aspects of photography in Scotland. This striking volume contains 80 b/w photographic reproductions giving a perfect evaluation of the Victorian calotype photographer. Binding rubbed and partly stained along edges. Some foxing on endpapers. Binding in overall fair, interior in good to good+, plates in very good condition.

Plate 80 (Old Lady) with 2" tear near gutter. In overall good condition.
