George W. Bowman, 1860. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. This is an Original 1860 printing of the Secretary of the Navy's report right before the Civil War. The book details the ships, actions, purchases, accomplishments, etc.. of the Navy back 160+ years ago. The book has a full leather binding and quarter leather covers with marbled designs. There are 415 pages. The binding is strong with the covers and all pages firmly attached. The pages are clean with no soiling, writing, or tears. There is a bookplate on the first end paper as well as a couple of library stamps. The copyright page shows 1860 as the only date. The covers are clean with some light rubbing and there is some moderate wear on the leather spine. We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

Large softcover, original government publication in original wraps. Exterior shows edge and spine issues which includes chipping and tearing. Front cover has a dark spot along the bottom and the original owners name written in pencil along the top edge. Internal binding is good and text pages are secure. Paper is toned due to age and some minor spotting and foxing is present. No other handwriting noted other than the name written on the front cover. No bookplates, no underlining no library markings. The last text page has some tearing in the gutter which was caused by a bit of binder glue. An extremely rare publication which also covers the Brownsville affray and was released by the 59th Congress, second session. Title page states document number 155.

Board corners moderately bumped/rubbed through, tiny chips at spine ends; boards otherwise clean, gilt lettering bright, binding & hinges firm. Maps lightly & uniformly age-toned as expected, else clean & complete: very slight foxing to the first map only. Just 3 maps show a tear to one of the fold-lines (roughly 3 inches long), not affecting the integrity of the map as a whole at all.
