Hardcover, original marbled paper cover boards half bound in leather. Exterior is quite worn in leather to spine is brittle with sections missing at the top and bottom, leather is cracked at both boards which are held on only by the binder string. Overall interior binding is good though pages 235 through 238 are protruding a bit and have some wiggle to them. Page 239 has a corner fold which has been straightened out. Paper is toned due to age and foxing is present throughout. Original owner signature is present on the front pastedown, front end page, and the gutter on page 119. The owner was R. S. Brown in the front end page shows the date of 1849.

Very Good binding. 8vo.; in stitched self-wrappers; 139 pages, including the Index; amazingly, of particular relevance is a section of Acts relating to Presidential Election, noting such things as "Qualification of electors, time and place of election", "When returns of elections to be made out", "Power to protect elections from violence" and quite a lot more, thus proving either that there is nothing new under the sun, or that as of 1844 the Commonwealth of Virginia at least had these matters well in hand.~. Very Good binding.

Hardcover, original marbled paper cover boards half bound in leather with red and black labels to spine. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling with cracking in wear to the leather. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues, nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age and foxing and spotting is present throughout. Front hinge is starting to open in the center. Previous owners names are written in several areas, it appears as book was passed down from father to son with the front and rear pastedowns showing the name R. S. Brown - May 1886, in the first end page shows the name C. L. Brown. In addition, the original owner signed 'Brown" twice on the title page. No other handwriting found in the book. Rear pastedown show some peeling to the edges.

Neat and contemporary manuscript title on the front free endpaper; text is heavily foxed throughout. An interesting collection of early Virginia laws including laws relating to enslaved persons; various individuals allowed to build roads and bridges, some with tolls; matters relating to soldiers; and more.

Richmond: Thomas Ritchie. 8vo.; in half-calf over marbled boards; spine has perished and binding held together with old library tape; the Acts of Assembly are from 1824; 1825; 1826; 1827; 1828; Part II of 1829; the Acts of 1824 are lacking the Index to Part II. With the signature of Peter Poythress Batte of Peterburg; contains much on Rivers; Turnpikes; the James River Company.~~Not pretty to look at, but contains a wealth of information about the laws of the Commonwealth in the early days of the Republic.
