Trafford Southwell, Wroxham Hall, from the author". Three volumes, First Editions, published 1828-1830. Bound in unsigned 19th c. half green morocco over marbled boards, marbled end papers, tops gilt, Near Fine, a trifle rubbed. William Taylor, of Norwich (1765-1836) was a British essayist, literary critic,scholar, and polyglot, to whom William Hazlitt paid tribute in "The Spirit of the Age " - "The style of philosophical criticism, which has been the boast of the Edinburgh Review, was first introduced into the Monthly Review about the year 1796, in a series of articles by Mr. William Taylor of Norwich". This Historic Survey of German Poetry is considered Taylor's major work, and was considered a major factor in furthering British interest in German literature.
