Brown textured cloth, unstamped, with "Shakspeare" lettered in gilt on spine panel, text block edged in gilt. Modestly rubbed edges, light shelf wear, with gilt on edges partially rubbed away. The binding and endpapers do not seem quite right for the period or match copies of other descriptions located for this edition, so we suspect this copy to have been rebound at some point -- though certainly not recently. xii,1027 pp. Contains biographical sketch, the complete text of the 37 plays, followed by "Venus and Adonis," "Rape of Lucrece," the Sonnets, "The Passionate Pilgrim," and "A Lover's Complaint," with a rear glossary. Marbled boards are rubbed. Foxing to text. Front endpaper has a mended tear near the bottom. There are some very neat penciled marginal notations. Contents of the volume are: King Richard the Third, King Henry the Eighth, Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Coriolanus ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Tan calf bindings with gilt lines and raised bands with gilt tooling to spine. Spine labels in dark and maroon. Spines are worn, with slight loss to Vol 1 which also has cracking to the front shoulder and a large red stain to front. The other three volumes are in much better condition.
