London: Macdonald and Co., 1951-1969. [Autobiographical Novel Series] 13 FIRST EDITIONS, two titles are second impressions ('The Golden Virgin' and 'A Fox Under My Cloak' 1962). Fifteen volumes. Octavo (21 x 14 x 53cm). Publisher's variously coloured cloth with gilt titles to spines (The Innocent Moon' is lettered in silver). Each with the distinctive dust-jacket illustrated by Broom Lynne, and variously priced between 12/6 and 35s ('The Innocent Moon' does not have a printed price) 'A Test to Destruction' is price clipped; 'Donkey Boy' has 3cm tear to base of jacket spine and toning to flyleaf; 'How Dear is Life' has some light ink staining from the jacket to spine, some discolouration of cloth at crown and base, 'Love and the Loveless' has toning to jacket spine. First edition, first printings with the exception of The Golden Virgin which is a second impression. 17 volumes, three of which are inscribed presentation copies from the author to his proof reader. Comprising the full set of fifteen first editions in publisher's original cloth and James Broom-Lynne illustrated dustwrappers, a marked up proof copy of The Phoenix Generation and a revised edition of The Innocent Moon. The first editions are all in excellent better than very good condition, the bindings square and firm. The contents are generally clean and bright throughout. "A Fox Under My Coat" has a small paperclip mark resulting in minor rust spots to the top edge of a couple of pages, "Test To Destruction" has two tape marks to the corners of the rear endpaper in addition to penciled notes on the same page, both "The Innocent Moon"… Read More
