Single issue of this general interest magazine. This issue includes the first three chapters of "The Claverings," by Anthony Trollope; a piece on giants, dwarfs, and fairies; the firs three chapters of "Archie Lovell," including a vampire brood, by Victorian novelist Annie Edwards, etc. GOOD condition. MISSING the aforementioned first several pages. Moderate fading to the covers, with some soiling. Rear cover with faint staining. Covers creased and worn at the corners and spine extremities, including loss of wrapper along the spine. Paper toned in the interior, with faint dampstaining affecting the last third of the magazine.

The Galaxy Magazine, or The Galaxy (subtitled "an illustrated magazine of entertaining reading") was an American monthly magazine founded by William Conant Church (who had been a war correspondent during the Civil War) and his brother Francis P. Church in 1866 and who became publishers for its short run. The magazine ran from 1866 until when Sheldon and Company gained financial control over the magazine, and it merged with the Atlantic Monthly in 1878. Notable contributors to the magazine early on include Mark Twain, Anthony Trollope, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Walt Whitman and Henry James.
