This is Jonson's drama rewritten into a different version for the stage by Stefan Zweig, the Austrian novelist and playwright. Ruth Langer translated this version from the German. In this "cleaned up" adaptation some of the lust and lechery has been removed, the dwarf, hermaphrodite, and eunuch have been written out of the story, and a courtesan has been written in.
