Description:
London: Picador, 2023. Waterstones Signed Exclusive Edition. Signed by the author. Hardback. 291pp. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. Here we meet Athene, who sprang fully formed from her father's head: goddess of Athens. We run with Artemis, goddess of hunting and protector of young girls (apart from those she wants as a sacrifice). Here is Aphrodite, goddess of sex and desire - there is no deity more determined and able to make you miserable if you annoy her. Then there's the queen of all the Olympian gods, Hera, Zeus's long-suffering wife, whose jealousy of his dalliances with mortals, nymphs and goddesses leads her to wreak elaborate, vicious revenge on those who have wronged her. We also meet Demeter, goddess of agriculture and mother of the kidnapped Persephone: we sing the immortal song of the Muses; and we warm ourselves with Hestia, goddess of the hearth and sacrificial fire. The Furies carry flames of another kind - black fires of vengeance for those who incur their wrath.… Read More

Description:
Fearn, Ross-shire: Christian Focus Publications, 2001. First edition, 2001. Hardback. 203pp plus publisher's ads at end. No jacket (as issued). This very readable book examines John's theology in detail. Dr Reymond takes the view that the Gospel, the Johannine epistles, and the book of Revelation come from the apostle John's pen. Building on this he demonstrates and develops theological links between the works. As he does so, he counters much much modern work on John and the conclusion that the apostle has presented to us the true Jesus, the incarnate God. Book in good condition. A little discolouration to covers and just a little toning to page edges.

Description:
New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1999. First US edition. Hardback. Very good/Very Good. Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New York, 1999. First US edition. Originally published in 1998 by Chatto & Windus, London. Book condition: very good. Slight shelf wear. The book has an unread feel. Dust jacket: very good. Unclipped and with light edge wear only. In this provocative work, Marina Warner goes beyond the terrain she covered in her widely praised book From the Beast to the Blonde to explore the darker, wilder realm where ogres and giants devour children, where bogeymen haunt the night, No Go the Bogeyman considers the enduring presence and popularity of figures of male terror, establishing their origins in mythology and their current relation to ideas about sexuality and power, youth and age. Warner revises our understanding of storytelling in our contemporary culture.
