This is the text which was first produced at the Edinburgh Festival of 1949 and repeated a year later in Brighton preparatory to a season in New York. It is written in the same kind of verse as The Cocktail Party. The text of this first edition was slightly more extended than that used on stage. This is the first impression with 'Ihad' on p7 instead of 'I had'.
