First SMU Press edition of book published 1994. Large trade paperback (8-3/8" x 11"), top right corner a bit bent on front cover and about half the pages, otherwise scant shelf wear, printed on semi-gloss and glossy (for color plates) stock. Pages bright and unmarked.

Hoffmann und Campe Verlag, 1963. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. THIS BOOK IS IN GERMAN (but the images are its main content). Mit einer Einleitung von Friedrich Schnack. Panoramas of 46 European cities and their surroundings, drawn from the 1695 edition of Archontologia Cosmica and the Topographia by the Swiss engraver Matthaeus Merian (the Elder) earlier in the 17th century. The engravings are on fold-out panoramic pages. 8" x 10-1/2" (~20 cm x 26.5 cm), pictorial boards, dust soil to edges, Paris fold-out was creased in the wrong place and protrudes slightly. The condition "fair" is a compromise between the "good" interior and "poor" binding: the backstrip is entirely missing and the paper over boards is ragged along where the backstrip was. Gift inscription on the half-title, other pages unmarked.

Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato, 1956. Soft cover. Fair. 87 pages, with index, list of illustrations. Besides the 40-some b&w illustrations (photos of artifacts and art works) on plates, there is a two-page frontispiece diagram "General Plan of the Excavations" at the site in Sicily. First English Translation stated. Series: Guide-Books to the Museums and Monuments of Italy. Text runs through page 51, followed by plates on glossy stock. Small booklet (~5-3/8" x 7-5/16", 13 x 18.5 cm), light blue wraps, spine sunned, wraps soiled, wear includes 1/2" tear at crown, foxing to edges and first plate. Main defect is that p. 64 and 65 are stuck together near top, with ~1" diameter damage to two of the plates. Pencil marks in margin of approximately 15 of the text pages.

Very Good/Very Good. 272 pages, with Index. 127 b&w art reproductions and photos, many of them taken by the author on travels throughout Europe; 20 maps. Chapters range from southern Italy to the northern British Isles. Edited by Robyn Cooper, who prepared the book for publication after the author's death in 1964. Royal 8vo (7-1/2" x 10"), taupe cloth with gilt lettering and decoration, pictorial end papers (detail of photo of a porch at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna), practically no visible wear, touch of page-turning soil, in unclipped DJ (price crossed out with new one written in pencil) with remainder mark - small hole punched in front panel.
