Charles Scribner's Sons, 1946. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 501 pages. Edited with an Introduction by W.H. Auden. Illustrated with b&w photos on eight double-sided plates at the end. Profiles of New England, New York City, Newport, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Richmond, Charleston (SC), Florida, upstate NY. 8vo, green cloth with faded gilt lettering, boards rubbed and frayed, backstrip separating but reglued, edges and page margins age-toned. Name of former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff, date Sept. 1960, note "From the library of Dr [Samuel] Chew" (Bryn Mawr College) written on ffep, WBB's underscoring and notes in pencil throughout (in his small, neat hand, and quite interesting). Laid in 4"x6" postcard reproduction of Childe Hassam's "Boston Commons at Twilight," 1859.
