The Book of Insects by artist Utamaro (1753-1806) is reproduced on 15 "double" color plates - one image across facing pages; the paintings incorporate poems, which are translated in a notes section at the end alongside small b&w reproductions of the same paintings. Pages unnumbered. The book, 7-3/4" x 10", maroon cloth, is produced in accordion format, open on both side edges, allowing easy fold-out of the plates. Minute soil spots to the front board and its paper label, which also has one tan stain, a touch of soil to the edges, corners sharp, no marks within. The slipcover has edge-wear and soil, particularly a coffee stain to the label on the front.
