"Redan Windham" is the title on spine (slightly tarnished) & front cover. It is unclear whether this publisher or Heinemann can claim the "true " first. Front cover has a medallion in gilt (which is somewhat tarnished) with C A W's battle honours. Spine is faded and worn at head and tail - now reinforced in the channel. 4 corners slightly worn but repaired. Top edge gilt but somewhat faded. 1 sheet of ads, frontis with tissue guard. A Library copy (Willowmore)with all signs except one stamp removed.

2 names on front boards - R W McL and A West--tt; numerous annotations in text and illustrations - most in lead pencil, some in col pencil. Boards slightly rubbed but easily legible; front was loose - now spine is repaired with new front end paper; last signature has been re-sewn. All pages uniformly and lightly tanned - no foxing. There are modern reprints but this original is extremely rare. The same E Th wrote at least 3 reports on Natural History and 4 more on the coinage of India.

Description:
PARTS IV and V are MISSING. The date 1860 is from a prev owner's inscription. There were a variety of bindings and apparently a choice of a number of maps and engraved plates on offer. The max no of maps found is 8 and the maximum plates apparently 64. Our 6 parts have a total of x maps and y plates. All spines are complete but worn at heads and tails ; the gold illustrations on the spines are only very slightly dull, those on the front bright and only slightly rubbed; all corners are slightly worn and bumped. Price quoted is for 6 Parts but parts are saleable at R360 each (approx US $ 21). There will be extra overseas postage - please enquire.

Folding colour maps as frontispieces in various states; corners slightly scuffed and bumped at heads and tails. Library stamps and numbers have been removed, but the books are apparently unread; pages very slightly yellowed. "this greatly expanded work comprised an enlarged overview of the Indian Empire in its first 4 volumes: Descriptive, Historical, Economic, and Administrative respectively".
