Small quarto (10 by 6 3/4 inches) 291 pages illustrated with black and white photos, drawings, and diagrams. Stiff card cover wrappers, good condition, with mild shelf wear to top of spine, not affecting contents.

The illustrations represent, among other descriptions, the food, housing, clothing, fishing, and ways of life of a small population living on an atoll in the South Pacific. The author was a "... Maori anthropologist, physician, and politician who made major contributions to Maori public health and became one of the world's leading Polynesian studies scholars."
