Description:
Hardback. Good/Very Good. Cave, Estella. John Murray, London, 1933, first edition; small quarto, pp 115; green paper boards and spine, slightly discoloured under the dustwrapper which is itself slightly frayed at the edges, but still a good to very good copy. As the dust wrapper comments "For many years Lady Cave has taken a special interest in the high character and domestic virtues of the ant. She has acquired much quaint information about them, and her enthusiasm has impelled some of her friends to break out at her behest into (often most unaccustomed) verse. Prime Ministers and Professors, Men of Business and Men of Leisure, all contribute to this very real ant-hology." Contributors include Rudyard Kipling, Julian Huxley, Beverley Nichols, James Barrie, Owen Seaman, Stanley Baldwin, Laurence Housman, Baden-Powell and Humbert Wolfe. Estella Cave was the wife of George, later Viscount Cave, a lawyer and a Conservative MP, Home Secretary under Lloyd-George and also Lord Chancellor.

Description:
Paperback. Good. Theosophical Society, London, 1932, first edition; small 8vo, pp 84 plus a single page of bibliography; green paper wrappers, sun-lightened on the spine and a couple of edges but a good copy overall. "It is the purpose of this present work to show that the Aryan Race is the natural successor of those that have preceded it ... we can say ... that a New Age is now dawning in the world ... caused by the emergence of a new level of consciousness ... ". Note, however, that this reference to an "Aryan Race" is used very differently to its use by the NSDAP in Germany and that Theosophical aims are in turn very different, seeking instead a "Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour". Note that the weight of the booklet, 90g, means that postage will be less than the default shown.

Description:
Hardback. Fair. This, the first edition of Smalridge's sermons, was published by William and John Innes in London in 1726 but this copy lacks both the title page and the engraved portrait frontispiece although it does have the 4pp publisher's catalogue at the end, dated 1725. Folio, pp [6, remaining prelims], [xx, subscribers to the work], [xix, Contents], 616, [iv, publisher's catalogue]. Contemporary panelled calf, spine gilt and with six raised bands, the covers rubbed and torn and with both boards detached; some older water staining on the inner corners of the last few leaves but otherwise internally in good, clean condition, albeit with a little browning here and there, and tightly bound. This is essentially a reference or binding copy which, were it repaired in the binding would become a very acceptable copy of the work. Smalridge, 1662-1719, was Bishop of Bristol from 1714-1719 and was esteemed on account of the quality of his sermons, Samuel Johnson considering them to be of… Read More
