New York: Playbill, 1956. Original Programs . Paper. Two original playbills from the early career of the legendary musical star Barbara Cook. The first one is an opening night playbill for the musical "Candide" that starred Cook in this operetta based on the Voltaire satire. The show had a book by Lillian Hellman and a score by Leonard Bernstein. The second playbill is from what is probably Ms. Cook's most famous show "The Music Man" for which she won a Tony award. The cover art is by Tony Walton. Both playbills are fine. Also included is a 20pg. souvenir program from another early Cook musical "Plain and Fancy" which is from later in the run. The program is illustrated with many photos of the young and slim Barbara Cook. Fine. Sold as a collection only.

The program is signed by CHARLIANE WOODWARD (ON THE COVER), NELL CARTER, ANDRE SHIELDS, ARMELIA McQUEEN, KEN PAGE & RICHARD MALTBY JR. A wonderful collection of 33 different copies of the now defunct Angelika Filmbill that was given out free at the Angelika theatre in New York City. The programs date from November 1993 to March 2002 when the theatre stopped publication. Each program was usually 40pgs. and were filled with reviews of the films shown along with interviews with filmmakers, soundtrack reviews and more. The Angelika is known for showing independent American and foreign films. Also laid in are handbills with short notes on films and some of the newer not as nice foldover programs that have taken the place of the more fancy programs. Sold as a collection only.

Each program is about 25pgs. and includes notes on the films shown which are mainly experimental and avant-garde but also listed are little known main stream films. Each program has a cover designed by an aritst and these include an attractive array of talents including LOUISE BOURGEOIS, ALFRED LESLIE, CHUCK CLOSE, JONAS MEKAS, ED RUSCHA, ANDRES SERRANO, MICHAEL SNOW, CHRISTO, GARY PANTER AND MARTIN PURYEAR + several others. New York: Random House, 1961. 2nd Printing . Cloth with Dustjacket. The musical play based on the King Arthur legend that starred Julie Andrews & Richard Burton. Illustrated with 3 photographs + 1 plate tipped on to the front cover. The musical was nominated for several Tony awards (but not best musical) and Richard Burton won for actor in a musical. Made into a bloated but beautiful looking film in 1967 that did poorly at the box office but won Oscars for its costumes and art direction. This is a very nice copy with a touch of light chipping to the top and bottom of the spine panel and a tiny tear to the top edge of the back panel of the dustjacket. Price clipped. The white dj. is nice and clean. Laid in is an illustrated 4pg. foldover for the Fireside Book Club edition which this is not. Vg/vg. New York: Irene Mayer Selznick, 1955. Original Program . Large Paper. An original 16pg. souvenir program for Enid Bagnold's play "The Chalk Garden." The program is from later in the production when Judith Anderson took over the lead from Siobhán McKenna. Also in the cast was Gladys Cooper who originated the role of the grandmother with a troubled granddaughter. Sceney and costumes were done by Cecil Beaton. Later made into a film with Deborah Kerr as the concerned governess. Fine.

Based on the John le Carre novel, the film starred Ralph Fiennes & Rachel Weisz, who won the Supporting Actress Oscar in 2005. Nicely printed on glossy paper and illustrated with full color photos, critical blurbs and excerpts from the screenplay. Fine.
