Slight shelf wear, otherwise near fine in soiled dust jacket, browned at the spine, with edge wear including nicks & small losses, a good or better example.
The original Chinese edition, "Hsing Shih Heng Yen" [Common Tales to Rouse the World], was published in 1627. The tales include Love in a Junk; Brother or Bride?; The Everlasting Couple; & The Mandarin-Duck Girdle.

Duodecimo (6.75" x 3.75"), 64 pages, illustrated, with folding map tipped to the inside of the rear cover entitled "Cook's Plan of Victoria, Central District, Hong Kong." Original pictorial light card covers, the upper depicting a Chinese junk in harbor. OCLC locates a single copy at Stanford as of 6/3/2023.
Light edge wear, brief soiling, ink annotations at lower cover apparently recording expenses for clothing.
Presumably produced for the American tourist, this uncommon guidebook describes hotels, transportation, night life, places of interest, etc., and, of course, provides numerous advertisements for local businesses.
"This small convenient-to-carry booklet has been compiled for the purpose of acquainting the traveller with the points of interest in above named commodities. We suggest that this guide be kept for reference while in China and then passed on to friends contemplating a visit. Will prove most serviceable." ~Excerpted from the title page.
