New York & London: W.W. Norton & Company, (1985). First edition, "Commemorative Copy for the Dear America Celebration, May 6, 1985." This copy signed in green ink by General William Childs Westmoreland on the title page. Octavo (9.5" x 6.25"), 316 pages including full page illustrations from photographs & endpaper maps. Publisher's gilt-lettered off white paper over boards backed in blue cloth lettered in red on the spine, in slipcase to which the program for the celebration is pasted (as issued) to the front panel (12 pages, stapled light card covers).
Binding soiled, spine lettering dull, corners bumped & rubbed, otherwise Good. The attached program has rusted staples, brief evidence of bio-predation, &minor foxing affecting the front cover, still Good or so. The slipcase is lightly rubbed, otherwise Very Good.

Upper margin lightly sunned, small stain at the top edge of the text block, previous owner's illustrated bookplate at the front pastedown, otherwise very good in good or better dust jacket with soiling (including a faint cup ring on the front panel), browning at the spine, with edge wear including a couple of nicks & a half inch closed tear.

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, 1949. First edition, this a presentation copy inscribed, signed & dated in ink by Liebling at the ffep to Alger & Priscilla Hiss. 8vo (8.25" x 5.75"), 251 pages. Publisher's cloth-patterned yellow paper over boards lettered in brown on the spine, lacking the dust jacket.
Spine darkened, soiled, upper joint splitting, shallow loss at spne extremities, corners bruised & rubbed through, a worn but historically significant copy.
"For Alger and/ Priscilla Hiss,/ Joe Liebling,/ with friendship./ July 14, 1949."
The second collection of Liebling's articles critical of New York newspapers which were originally published in the NEW YORKER, this copy presented to Hiss & wife exactly one week after his first trial ended in a hung jury. During the course of the trial Liebling formed a warm friendship with the defendant, & thereafter aggressively criticized the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Prague, Czechoslovakia: Artia, (1958). Oblong quarto (8.25" x 10.5"), publisher's pictorial boards backed in light gray cloth-patterned paper initialed in print on the front cover by Vojtech Kubasta & signed in print at the colophon. The front cover features an oval cutout showing Snow White which revolves to reveal the seven dwarfs, with text in Dutch & 8 pop ups within (as issued).
Lightly rubbed, couple of bruises in the edges, corners bumped, slightly soiled, previous owner's name in ink at the colophon, otherwise very good or better.
A delightful & early pop up book by architect & artist Vojtech Kubasta (1914 - 1992). Beginning in 1956, he designed & illustrated pop ups for Artia, the Cold War-era state-owned publishing house in Prague. Kubasta's books have been translated into 24 languages & over 35 million copies have been sold.
