Known primarily for her mystery fiction, author Rinehart, often called the American Agatha Christie, directs her appeal to the mothers of the United States noting that "Personal service is not rolling bandages for the other woman's son."
This title was published in April, 1917, the same month when the United States reversed its neutrality stance & declared war on the German Empire.

New York: St. Martin's Press, (1994). First edition, this copy boldly signed in ink on the title page by Barbara Neely. Octavo ((8.5" x 5.75"), 232 pages. Publisher's black paper over boards lettered in silver on the spine, in pictorial dust jacket (art work by John Howard).
Light foxing at the top edge of the text block & very briefly on the front free endpaper, otherwise fine in fine dust jacket.
The second title featuring "black domestic worker extraordinaire" Blanche White. In this book, "Blanche gets an insider's view of the color and class divisions within the black community."
Barbara Ann Neely (1941 – 2020) was named Grand Master in 2020 by The Mystery Writers of America.

Bindings worn: mostly small losses at spine extremities, volume one with chip affecting lettering, volumes three & four with brief staining toward the base of the spines, edges & corners rubbed, otherwise a good & still quite useful set.
The first 5 volumes comprise Tales, volume 6, Poems, volume 7 through 9, Criticisms, & volume 10, Miscellany.
