Lake Champlain, Vermont: Young Men's Christian Association of Vermont, volume xiv, numbers 1 to 16, 1924. Octavo (9" x 6"), 109 pages, occasional illustration from photographs & art work by F. Harrison Stafford & Robert E. Allen. Original stapled paper wraps. Moderately soiled, light edge wear including a closed tear (about 1.25") at rear cover, staples rusted causing minor staining, otherwise Very Good. Sixteen issues of the Abnaki Herald, the journal of the nation's oldest YMCA all boy's camp. The camp was founded by Byron Clark in 1901 and is still in existence today. The theme of the journal reflects the camp motto, "Help the Other Fellow."

Philadelphia, Henry Altemus: no date (circa 1895). Sextodecimo (6" x 4.5"), 165 pages plus 16 unnumbered pages of publisher's advertisements, with frontis portrait of the author. Publisher's maroon cloth lettered & decorated in a floral motif in gilt, green, & red on the spine & upper cover.
Brief wear at spine extremities & edges, lightly soiled, spine dull, otherwise Good or better.
Brooks, Episcopalian clergyman, was long the Rector of Boston's Trinity Church and briefly Bishop of Massachusetts. Includes: Beauty of a Life of Service; Thought and Action; The duty of the Christian Business Man; True Liberty; Christ in Whom Christians Believe: & [Sermon on the Death of] Abraham Lincoln.

[London]: "In the Savoy, Printed by E and R Nutt for Thomas Harris, at the Looking-Glass and Bible on London Bridge," 1741. "Third Edition, carefully corrected," this copy with the ownership signature of John G.C. Brainard at the first blank page. 16mo (65" x 425"), [2], 348, & [16] pp, two parts bound in one volume. Contemporary full sheep, the spine in six compartments separated by raised bands, with a gilt-lettered maroon spine label in one compartment ESTC N44455. OCLC finds 9 copies under 4 accession numbers.
Binding rubbed & scuffed, joints & hinges cracked, gilt dull at spine label, ownership signatures of John G.C. Brainard & Rich. Hayes, Jr in old ink at front blanks, couple of leaves with short tears in the margins (text unaffected), several page corners turned, text tanned & foxed, a good or better copy.

Indianapolis, Indiana: Scarborough Motor Guide Company, no date, circa 1920. 8vo (9" x 5.5"), vi & 102 pages, indexed, pages 2 through 87 provide color printed maps (many double-page). Publisher's green faux leather over flexible boards lettered in white on the front cover.
Cover lettering dull, slight wear at upper corners & spine extremities, otherwise Near Fine.
Includes key to map pages, route numbers, distances, explanation of signs, index of towns, advertisers, & city maps.

[Boston]: Hotel Somerset, 1910. 24mo, maroon limp leatherette folder lined in red satin, with the seal of the commission in gilt on the upper cover & an enameled brass pin of the Argentinian flag attached. A small bored hole in the rear cover suggests that a second pin, most probably the United States flag, was once included, though now lacking. Laid in, & within folded card stock covers (elaborately printed in gilt & illustrated in color with the flags of the United States & Argentina intertwined & surmounted by an anchor), is the menu & program of music (printed in blue, red, & gilt), with glassine dust jacket Additionally laid in is a duplicate of the menu on thick, bevel-edged heavy card stock which is embossed in gilt with the seal of Boston's Hotel Somerset.

New Haven, Connecticut: E.P. Best Mfg. Co., no date (ca. 1890). Folio (approximately 15" x 10"), embossed chromolithograph on thick card stock.
Modest edge wear, light soiling, verso with remnants of glue (apparently once mounted) & a few scuffs, Very Good. Undoubtedly a stock image adapted to the needs of this enterprise, the pastoral vignette of grazing cows along a meandering stream, surrounded by a border of colorful flowers, seems incongruous with the nature of the business. Not found in OCLC although trade cards by EP Best are represented.

First edition. 8vo, 64 & [1] pages of printed text followed by 57 decorated & illustrated pages to record births, deaths, marriages, etc, of which 30 contain annotations in manuscript relative to John Grant (1688 - 1776), a British emigrant to Boston, & descendants. Original black cloth lettered & decorated in gilt & blind. Sabin/ Dictionary of Books Relating to America C 23765 (erroneously providing 1851 as year of publication).

Original embossed stiff paper wraps, stapled. Not found in OCLC (or any other material from this association) as of 5/26/2022.Covers toned & lightly soiled/ stained, wraps partially split at the spine, staples rusted, good or better. Originally published in 1893, these volumes, prepared by Alice Reynolds for the Canton Historical Society, were apparently given as premiums for donations to the Not only an engaging & exhaustive history, but also an important genealogical reference.

New York: Harper & Row, (1971) First edition, this copy inscribed & signed in ink at the ffep by author, illustrator & Caldecott winner Elizabeth Orton Jones. 8vo, viii, 271 pp. Publisher's dark gray paper over boards backed in lighter gray cloth lettered in yellow on the spine, in pictorial dust jacket.Modest foxing mostly at endpapers, pastedowns, & edges of the text block, otherwise very good in very good, price-clipped dust jacket, lightly soiled, with brief edge wear including a couple of small losses.Although Ms Gillespie here writes of childhood summers at the family compound in or near Westport Point, Massachusetts, she was a long-time resident of Exeter, New Hampshire Elizabeth Orton Jones, who was awarded the 1945 Caldecott Medal for "Prayer for a Child," lived in nearby Mason.

Lightly foxed & stained, slight edge wear, diagonal corner crease throughout, Good or better. As described in Around Southwick (Arcadia Publishing, 1997), Edward Gillett "pioneered the use of wild flowers in gardens and introduced rhododendrons and azaleas to northern climes." Not in Romaine, OCLC finds one (National Agricultural Library) as of 2/5/2019.

Boston: [Wright and Potter]; Massachusetts Board of Harbor and Land Commissioners, 1882. Large folding map measuring 20 inches by 42.75 inches including margins printed on light paper issued to accompany the Report of the Harbor and Land Commissioners for 1882. Modern archival reinforcement on the verso, moderately toned, couple of small stains, couple of nicks & short tears in the margins, tear (1.5") & unobtrusive loss at the lower left corner, still Very Good.
Quite uncommon, OCLC locates two copies only as of 6/1/2022 (accession number 9094065, Harvard; State Library of Massachusetts).

Although from Brooklyn, Mrs. Hudson apparently spent summers with her father in Ludlow. She also gave generously to the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
