Autograph in ink on engraved United States Senate Chamber admission pass which has not been filled out. [Washington, D.C.], no date (circa 1930). Measures 2.75 inches by 4.25 inches, with annotation in ink in a different hand at the bottom of the card: "1928 - 1932."
Removed from a scrapbook leaving remnants of glue residue & paper on the verso, lightly toned, otherwise Very Good.

Light edge wear along the folded side, small loss just touching text affecting pp. 5/6, otherwise Very Good. A supporter of George McClellan, Ticknor writes in part: "No more awful spectacle can be contemplated than that of a great, powerful and energetic nation, who have no rule of action but the rule of a written Constitution, and who have lost their fidelity to its requirements. We have been so situated through three whole years of Civil War, that it has been in the power of extreme and violent men to denounce a pure and high regard for the limitations of our fundamental law as treason to the Union ..." The author, who was co-counsel for Dred Scott, concludes his essay with a series of "Mottoes fot the Campaign" selected from the writings of McClellan.

Octavos (9" x 6"), variously paginated, with illustrations, facsimiles (some folding), & portraits. Publisher's one-half brown faux leather simulating crushed morocco & green cloth, the spines lettered & ruled in gilt, each volume with the facsimile signature of Abraham Lincoln in gilt on the upper cover. Top edges of the text blocks a little dusty, volume xi with small, unobtrusive white streak at the bottom of the spine, otherwise Fine. Please note, this set is lacking volume xii which includes an anthology & part of the index. An important set in an attractive binding, now out of print, which was available serially from the publisher in 2008 for $24.95 per volume. Shipping weight is 21 lbs.

Toned, moderate edge wear including short tears, good or better. Supported by tables, charts, & extracts from news accounts, the author alleges "over 2,500 erasures and alterations in the ledgers of the offices of the Registrar and Secretary of the Treasury" during the tenure of Ulysses S Grant.

Presents a list of accomplishments as a result of the policies of FDR by year, despite Republican obstruction, as the country emerged from the devastation of the Great Depression. In closing, the text reads as follows:"The Roosevelt Administration has aided business by direct loans, sound banking, encouragement of private investment through long-term, low interest loans, and rebuilding of buying power through the spend-lend program."

Original program, single sheet measuring 17 inches by 14 inches folded once horizontally & once vertically (as issued) forming 4 pages, printed on patterned light card stock, with the Seal of the United States embossed on the front cover. Slightly soiled, toned, & foxed, otherwise Very Good. Includes the text of remarks by Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., excerpted in part below: "On this spot men and women, as they devote themselves to the practice and performance of the arts, will provide a continuous celebration of the shining memory of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy."

An insightful biography of Gerry, signer of the Declaration of Independence, fifth vice-president of the United States, & namesake of gerrymandering Although complete in itself, a second volume was issued in 1829.

A fine example. Recognizes Mr Burns as a contributor & participant "in the work of bringing about a return to the fundamental principles of our government." Interestingly, the certificate was printed by the Lithographers' International Protective and Beneficial Association, a union shop.

Steele describes a meeting he had with John C Fremont, the first presidential candidate of the newly formed Republican Party. Colonel Fremont affirms his religion as Protestant & describes the suggestion that he might actually be a Catholic "is a device of the enemy, gotten up without any foundation or truth, merely for political effect." OCLC locates 5 copies.

Addressing "Dear Bob," Kennedy declines an invitation to attend a social event for his daughter, noting that he will be in Palm Beach from "the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas." Kennedy does ask to be kept on the list as "even [he] might get there some day."
Robert Jackson was a New Hampshire lawyer who became secretary of the Democratic National Committee in 1931. Twenty-six volumes, I through XXVI (of 28), octavos (8.75" x 6.25"), variously paginated, each volume illustrated with plates from paintings, engravings, etchings, drawings, photos, maps, etc., including frontispieces, with tissue-guards. Publisher's three-quarter crushed dark blue morocco & marbled paper over boards by Haddon & Company (signed), the spines in six compartments separated by raised bands, lettered or decorated in gilt in all compartments. Top edges gilt, the others uncut.
Occasional very minor rubbing mostly affecting raised bands, one volume with slight wear at the top of the spine, a bit of toning to marbled paper, hinge started in volume one (still secure), otherwise near fine.
