First editions, original broadsheet newspapers, single sheets measuring 22 inches by 29 inches folding once vertically forming 4 pages each.Old folds, tattered, creased, some losses (text mostly unaffected), small rubber stamp in the margins, good or so & still quite useful.
The Washington Evening Star was founded in 1852 by Captain Joseph Borrows Tate. In 1853, Tate sold an interest to William Douglas Wallach who became sole owner in 1855. Thereafter, he shortened the name to the Evening Star and introduced the Sunday edition. The paper was noted for coverage of the Civil War and was long the paper of record for the Nation's Capital. After a run of 128 years, publication ceased in 1981.
