Poughkeepsie, NY, 1887. Flexible leather album, front cover stamped in gilt with title "Autographs" surrounded by gilt flourishes, spine decorated in gilt, all edges gilt. 98 pp, 19 of them blank, leaving 79 with manuscript and 78 signatures, 4 with writing in Japanese as well as English, 3 with full page calligraphic drawings of birds, with 38 photographs in the form of stamps including one oversize stamp measuring 1 3/4" x 2 1/4" of Mrs. C.C. Gaines, wife of the President of Eastman College ( the other stamps all measure 7/8" x 1"). The rest of the stamps are males, either students or faculty. The photographic stamps were done by C. H. Gallup of Poughkeepsie, NY. The album belonged to student Clif. J. Prosser. Very Good, the leather rubbed at edges, rear leather cover about half loosened from the board, light soiling. A superb World War II archive featuring a significant manuscript photograph album (oblong 17" x 12") containing 147 photographs on 46 pages (17 pages blank at rear), service records, citations, orders, medals, patches, bars, newspaper clippings, ID card, dog tags, and additional loose photographs and negatives, all belonging to Edwin Oscar Ahbe (1916-1995) . Ahbe was inducted on Dec. 1, 1943, reporting to Camp Peekskill, NY and serving as a Cameraman Motion Picture 043 and Combat Photographer in the 3374th Signal Photographic Service Company. After stops at Fort Sheridan and Camps Smith and Crowder, his first overseas photographs in the album begin in Ceylon. The countries with the highest counts include Belgium, 8000+, France, 5100+, Spain, 4400+, and Switzerland, 3500+. The collector sent letters requesting their unused labels to wineries, breweries and distilleries. Consequently, almost all are unused and most are stored in the original contemporary return envelopes, with a count and sometimes a country on the outside for each envelope. Soviet Union , 1979. Dated 1979-1982, a unique and RARE Soviet sailor's photo album, 13 1/2" w x 9" h, in string-tied brown velvet over heavy cardboard. Containing 40 pp. of thick cardboard, with 140 black and white and 4 color photographs pasted in, and 4 B & W photos and 1 negative laid in. The album rendered unique and amazing by the addition of 15 exquisitely detailed SIGNED pen and ink tracings of warships, 11 modern Soviet Navy warships and 4 tall ships, on rice paper, with each tracing interspersed between the photography pages. Very Good, small tears to the edges of some of the rice paper sheets. RARE Soviet Navy photographs from the height of the Cold War taken by an incredibly talented sailor/ artist. . Photograph Album. Very Good. 13 1/2" w x 9" h.
