Missoula, MN, c1920-1923. Marjorie Elizabeth Bullock was born on January 7, 1902 in Shell Lake, WI to William Loring Bullock (1873-1941) and Nellie Earnestine Nelson (1873-1940). The family moved to Montana shortly thereafter and her father,William, eventually become the County Attorney. Marjorie attended the University of Montana from 1920 to 1923 where she was a member and Vice President of the Delta Phi Delta Art Society and a member of the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta She married Capt. John Henry Ringe (1895 -1943 in September 1923. They had one daughter together, Joanne Ringe (1924-2010). Her husband, a Colonel in the Army by this point, unfortunately died in a plane crash in September of 1943. At the time he was stationed at Camp Harahan, LA, and he and a pilot were on maneuvers when the plane crashed into the \Mississippi River. Marjorie died in October 1974. Washington, DC, c1905-1908. Robert Simpson Woodward was born on July 21, 1849 in Rochester, MI to Lysander Woodward (1817 - 1880) and Peninah Axford Simpson (1825 - 1894). Robert first attended Rochester Academy, graduating in 1868. He went to the University of Michigan to study engineering and graduated in 1872. He worked as a geographer for the US geological survey from 1884 to 1890. He became a Professor of Mechanics at Columbia University in 1893 and in 1904 left that post to become President of Carnegie Institute of Washington, DC, where he remained until 1921. He was also President of several societies, such as American Mathematical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Robert married Martha Gretton Bond (1851 -1937) on March 1, 1876 in Detroit, MI. Opening in 1860, with his partner Mr. Webster, his shop on Westminster St, in Providence, RI, sold spectacles, eyeglasses, opera glasses, and optical glasses, optical goods, and fine jewelry. This particular single-fold trade catalogue for the store lists inventory on a variety of glass thermometers, hydrometers, urinometer, and lactometer. The flyer claims that the store has "one of the largest stocks in New England" and that "especial [sic] attention given to selecting first-class, accurate Thermometers for Mechanical uses."
