Description:
London: Hurst and Blackett, [1903 or 1904. Preface dated Dec. 1, 1903]. xxviii, 736 pages, plus frontispiece and [4] pages terminal ads. Photographs and drawings throughout the text, for a total of 660 illustrations. Original green cloth stamped in gold and black. Top edge gilt. [26.8 cm.] Good plus. Spine ends and corners worn; some light stains and rubbing to cloth. Hinges started internally, but holding well; text block dropped. Sliver of removed bookplate remains on front pastedown, light foxing to endpapers, occasional traces of foxing at edges, but interior is generally clean. Inscription on front free endpaper: "N. H. Russell, Rathculliheen, Waterford, 1913." THIRD EDITION, so stated, revised and substantially enlarged. The author notes in his preface that this edition is "nearly twice as large as the previous one, and contains 279 new photographic illustrations." --p. ix.
