Tiny tears to head of spine, the base of spine chipped to the text block, shallow gouge to the bottom edge of front board, tiny hole on the rear joint, but sound. A few stains to cloth including dark spotting along the joints. Sporadic moderate foxing; occasional, mostly marginal stains with a few spots to the text not affecting legiblity; light tanning to several pages due to prior enclosures. Thus good only, but scarce in any condition. FIRST EDITION, New York issue. Original paper-covered boards printed in red and black. 19.5 x 13 cm. Slight loss to the paper covering the rear joint from insect nibbling, else very good. Light wear to the spine ends with one letter of publisher's name rubbed away, spine a little sunned, slight browning to ends of spine and edges of covers, tiny split to one corner. Early gift inscription on front free endpaper, faint foxing to endpapers. Text leaves are a little toned, as expected, but clean. An attractive copy overall.FIRST EDITION. Ex-Sondley Reference Library with light internal markings: tasteful bookplate on front pastedown, embossed stamp on frontispiece, title, and one other leaf, and ink number stamp on verso of title and in the margin of one other page. Else fair only, but uncommon in any condition. Spine ends chipped and frayed, corners worn, spine faded to tan.
