If you are a zine collector, this is quite attractive, well-designed and illustrated, and almost impossible to find. The author/publisher most likely worked his craft in upper Ontario, Canada, near St. Catherines & Welland.

Original special issue of this oversized newspaper (compared to today) promoting resource development and other commercial enterprises in Yukon Territory. The covers sheet is headlined "Guardians of Our Northern Heritage" and has the portraits of Canadian Prime Minister Diefenbaker, BC Premier Bennett, and President Eisenhower. Lots of news stories, accounts of historical progress, and both big and little ads. 72pp. "Ma" Murray ended up in Lillooet and published the Lillooet News. Lillooet is on the banks of the Frazer River NW of the Fraser Canyon. In the spring of 1969, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Murray at her newspaper office while taking my parents on a sight-seeing trip up the river the year my wife and I lived in Vancouver. In retrospect, I can't think of any famous person I would rather have met. I believe I purchased this item at this time. Vg. Scarce.

Berlin, Ontario, changed its name in 1961 to Kitchener, according to several sources, because of rising anti-German sentiment. Originally, in 1833, the name was chosen after the capitol of Prussia. Decorative endpapers. Both hinges are "broken" meaning the paper is cracked at the (inside) hinges and the webbing there is floppy. I have decided not to attempt a cheap repair on this volume & would recommend the buyer take it to a professional in the bookbinding trade. It is too valuable a book to fix it incorrectly. This memoir by the beloved late antiquarian bookseller in St. Catherines, Ontario, of her childhood during WWII in Germany and then China, is quite honestly one of the best memoirs I have ever read. I would upon occasion, while visiting family in Ontario, stop at Hannelore's bookshop and talk a bit with her about the book trade while finding a few treasures in her shop for stock. This is a bookseller's memoir as not only Ms. Headley was a fine bookseller, but her father did, also - and that is a big part of this story of survival. Fine, as new. You will not regret buying and reading this book.
