German Prisoners of War in the Suez Canal Zone included this author, a doctor, who escapes, fearing he would soon be sent to a worse camp. He later awakens to find a young Bedouin goat-herder frisking him. In his village, he is advised to learn Arabic and grow a beard; to become Bedouin. He practiced medicine as Salameh Suleiman or "El Hakim el Alemani", "The German Doctor", and lived a nomadic life until a contact in Lebanon encouraged him to get there. In 1952, he would reunite in Berlin with his son, whom he had last seen at 18 months old, in 1944 when he was sent to the Italian Front. Dr. Pritzke returned with the boy to Beirut and to his medical career there.
