About This Item

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1949. Book Club. . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. This humorous locked room mystery won its author the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery in 1950. The body in question belongs to Merlin Broadstone, the health and fitness guru, shot to death about 6:30 in the morning at the brand new Broadstone luxury hotel and health resort on a remote island in the Gulf of Mexico near St. Petersburg, Florida. "What we're looking for," one of the investigating officers opined, "is a murderer who can walk on the surface of a body of water six feet deep while remaining invisible. What we are also looking for," he added, "is a murderer who would put pajamas on his victim after shooting him and walk through the walls of a locked room to do so." First book club edition. 239 pages in orange paper-covered boards and yellow lettering on spine and Inner Sanctum mystery logo on front cover. A slight spine lean, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, binding is tight. Remarkably little wear to boards or text, no tears, no creasing or chipping. Sorry, just a reading copy with no dustjacket, but if you're looking for a break from crime noir and in the mood for an evening of entertainment with a humorous mystery, you can't do much better than this.
