1910. Painting. Fine. Unframed. Signed by THE ARTIST. Original. 270mm x 400mm. Origianl illustration from Edmund Selous' The Romance of Insect Life, page 294 published by Seeley in 1906. A monochrome watercolour wih a little added mixed media on light board. The image measures approximately 270mm x 400mm, signed to the lower edge. Unframed, old double sided tape to the reverse of the board, remains a little tacky, otherwise in fine condition. Speed was a prolific illustrator of many books, both fantasy tales, fiction and non-fiction. [Lancelot Speed 1860 -1931 was a coastal painter and a British illustrator of books in the Victorian era, usually of a fantastical or romantic nature. He is probably most well known for his illustrations for Andrew Lang's fairy story books.].
