Cleveland: The World Publishing Company, 1961. 1st Edition Assumed 2nd. Hardcover. Good +/Good. B&W illustrations by Alberto Beltran; color photos as well. CONDITION: UNREAD c. 1961 The World Publishing Company large hardcover (decorated boards) & dust jacket (in mylar cover), first edition, assumed 2nd printing. The book has problems, but IS unread and the interior is clean and tight. The problem is with the corners and edges of the boards (see or send for the scans) and with the dust jacket which has extreme edge wear top and bottom spine and at corners and is covered in mylar cover to prevent further erosion. I have done some small cosmetic work on the bottom edges of the boards, but it's strictly cosmetic and the corners are frayed. Questions encouraged and answered. CONTENT: "An exotic panorama - lavishly illustrated and pulsing with life - of the Aztec, Maya, and Inca civilizations. A major work of archaeology, anthropology, and history, by one of America's foremost archaeological historians.… Read More

New York: Dorset Press, 1989. New Edition 3rd Printing. Hardcover. New/New. Filled with B&W era photos, maps, plans. CONDITION: UNREAD 1989 Dorset Press hardcover (grey boards) & dust jacket, first edition Dorset, 3rd printing. Filled with B&W era photos, drawings, maps, plans. CONTENT: Drawing on the archaeological evidence and the written records from the period of the Spanish conquest, Kendall has painted an evocative and rounded picture of their daily routine and ritual occasions, including feasts, games, and sacrifices. She highlights the remarkable approach of the Inca emperors to town planning and describes the construction of their homes, palaces, temples and fortifications, and the organization of work forces for farming, building and fighting, as well as the education of children, the responsibility of adults and care of the aged. While this is an older book, the observations and research are still in good standing with modern findings.

CONDIITON: NEW 1997 Univ of Texas Press trade paperback, first edition, no printing given. B&W maps and photos illustrate. Some dePoma drawings. CONTENT: Surrounded by the peaks of the Andean cordillera, the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca have long provided refreshment and nourishment to the people who live along its shores. From prehistoric times, the Andean peoples have held Titicaca to be a sacred place, the source from which all life originated and the site where the divine manifests its presence. In this interdisciplinary study, Verónica Salles-Reese explores how Andean myths of cosmic and ethnic origins centered on Lake Titicaca evolved from pre-Inca times to the enthronement of the Virgin of Copaca-bana in 1583. She begins by describing the myths of the Kolla (pre-Inca) people and shows how their Inca conquerors attempted to establish legitimacy by reconciling their… Read More

CONDITION: NEW 2003 Bear & Co. trade paperback, first paperback edition, first printing. Loaded with B&W drawings, maps, and charts plus 2 color photo sections. Centuries later another great miracle worker, similar to the first, appeared and wandered the countryside, healing the sick and restoring sight to the blind. He, too, was named Viracocha. These accounts have long baffled scholars, as have the carvings left by the people of Tiahuanaco who preserved these legends. Now Maurice Cotterell, who cracked the codes hidden in both ancient Maya carvings and the treasures of Tutankhamun, unlocks the secrets concealed within the treasure-filled tombs of Viracocha Pachamac and Viracocha. UNREAD c. 1997-9 Fowler Museum of Cultural History huge paperback, assumed first printing. Loaded with B&W artifact drawings from the tombs and surrounding areas with great color photos, as well. The Moche civilization is probably more intriguing/interesting than the Incas, IMHO. There are parts of the book that are in English and Spanish, but not the entire book. Fascinating archaeological study. While this may be slightly dated, the basic information is still relevant. Questions welcome & answered. CONTENT: This volume includes the results of a five-year excavation (1983-1987) at Pacatnamu, Peru, combining archaeological excavation with physical anthropology, botany, zoology, textile analysis, ethnography, and ethnohistory.
